World Dodgeball Federation

The World Dodgeball Federation (WDBF) is here at last! Dodgeball organizations from all over the world are joining together to bring Dodgeball to the next level through collaboration, cooperation and international matches. The main purpose of this organization is to for DodgeBall to be officially represented in the International community by acting as the International Federation (IF) for the sport. The World Dodgeball Federation, commonly known by the acronym WDBF , is the international governing body of association dodgeball. Its membership comprises 11 national associations. Its headquarters are in Toronto, Ontario Canada. WDBF is responsible for the organisation of dodgeball's major international tournaments, notably the Dodgeball World Championships. '''History of WDBF''' The need for a single body to oversee the game became apparent with the increasing popularity of international fixtures. WDBF was founded on 29 July 2011. The founding members were the national associations of Canada, United States of America, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Romania, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines. '''Structure''' WDBF is an association established under the Laws of Canada. Its headquarters are in Toronto, Ontario. WDBF's supreme body is the WDBF board, an assembly made up of representatives from each affiliated member association. The Board assembles in ordinary session once every year and, additionally. Only the Board can pass changes to WDBF's statutes. WDBF's Board is the main decision-making body of the organisation in the intervals of Congress. WDBF's worldwide organisational structure also consists of several other bodies, under authority of the Board. Among those bodies are the Finance Committee, the Disciplinary Committee, the Referees Committee, etc. Beside from its worldwide institutions there are three associations recognized by WDBF which oversee the game in the different continents and regions of the world. National associations, and not the continental confederations, are members of WDBF. The continental confederations are provided for in WDBF's statutes, and membership of a confederation is a prerequisite to WDBF membership. Asia Pacific Dodgeball Federation European Dodgeball Association North American Dodgeball Association In total, WDBF recognises 14 national associations and their associated national teams. The WDBF Board is the supreme legislative body of WDBF. At the assembly decisions are made relating to WDBF's governing statutes and their method of implication and application. The board approves the annual report, and decides on the acceptance of new national associations and holds elections. Each national dodgeball association has one vote, regardless of its size or dodgeballing strength. '''Discipline of national associations''' WDBF frequently takes active roles in the running of the sport and developing the game around the world. One of its sanctions is to suspend teams and associated members from international competition when a government interferes in the running of WDBF's associate member organizations or if the associate is not functioning properly.

The World Dodgeball Federation and the Federación Mexicana de Dodgeball are excited to announce the 5800-seat Poliforum Benito Juarez as the host venue for the 2019 Dodgeball World Championships, which will take place from November 26th to December 1st in Cancun, Mexico. The Championships will mark the first time top talent from the international stage will come to Mexico. Participants will include defending women's champions United States and defending men's champions Malaysia, along with Argentina, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Italy, and New Zealand, among others.

"We have been working very hard for the last five years to introduce dodgeball to Mexico," said Armando Valdes Samaniego, president of the Mexican Dodgeball Federation. "We're beyond excited to show the world what we have achieved so far, but also to inspire athletes across the country to play dodgeball. We believe the World Championships are the perfect opportunity to show the nation that dodgeball is not just a game, but a competitive sport that is both intoxicating to play and exciting to watch."

The World Dodgeball Federation's marquee event has been held every year since 2012. The first World Championships were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where Hong Kong took the men’s gold, and a combined United States-Canada team won gold for the women. Since then, nations from around the world have convened and competed in Queenstown, New Zealand; Hong Kong, Las Vegas, United States; Melbourne, Australia; Toronto, Canada; and Los Angeles, United States.
